Here are three lesser known tools that I love and keep installed on all my Macs to maintain or increase productivity.
1. Default Folder X
This handy tool by St. Clair Software is a simple user interface that wraps around your Mac Open and Save pop-up dialog windows. Default Folder X helps you find files faster with features like favorites, recent folders and keyboard shortcuts. It also includes meta tagging, visual previews with QuickLook and additional file information all in one place.
2. 1Password
Never write down another password on a yellow sticky note again with 1Password by AgileBits. This “can’t leave home without it” desktop program and mobile app securely stores, manages and serves up my passwords instantly whenever and wherever I go. One of my favorite features is the Strong Password Generator that creates rock solid, random passwords whenever I need a new one.
3. StayFocused
Are your favorite sites like Facebook and YouTube draining your time and decreasing productivity? If so, install StayFocused by Transfusion Media. This extension for Chrome (my preferred web browser) allows me to set time limits for any website. Once I have used up all my scheduled time for the day, usually set for twenty minutes, StayFocused blocks me from accessing the website. Although this application isn’t bulletproof from keeping me away from time wasting sites, it works well enough to keep me on track and stay focused throughout my day.
